Earth Day 2018 is April 22nd What can Tree Guardians do to express love and appreciation for our beautiful planet, contribute to our communities and help our neighbors? Plant trees!
Not only do trees add beauty to our neighborhoods, they improve the quality of air we breathe and the water we drink. Trees provide shade for children to play and keep our houses cool. They also help us breathe better and can help reverse the impacts of climate change. According to the Earth Day Network, in just one year, a mature leafy tree produces as much oxygen as 10 people inhale!
The Earth Day Network plans to plant 7.8 billion trees, as part of its Trees for the Earth project. The goal is to plant one tree for every person on the planet by 2020, which will be the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.
Whether you are planting trees for your neighborhood or trees for the planet, make sure they are native to the environment, which will help them resist disease or pests. If you have any questions about the trees you want to plant, check out the Tree Wizard on the website of the Arbor Day Foundation.
Celebrate Earth Day by working to restore the planet for future generations of children so that they will also one day know the astonishing world of trees.
