The Beauty and Wonder of Trees Project is currently on exhibition at the Peggy Notebaert/Chicago Nature Museum, located in Lincoln Park. This dream-come-true showcase for children and their grown-ups seeks to reveal the humanity and altruism of trees through images of bark, leaves, branches, seeds and fruit. The tree portraits highlight anthropomorphic (human-like) characteristics and metaphorical messages that will help the viewer connect heart-to-heart with our planet’s largest and most beneficial plant. Special thanks to Tara Preston, the museum’s Multi-Media Exhibit Designer, who created an exhibition space that honors and draws attention to the exhibition’s celebration of neighborhood trees.
Established in 2013, The Beauty & Wonder of Trees Project also seeks to nurture within children a sense of interconnection with nature that extends beyond science and fosters neighborhood tree stewardship, ecological literacy, creativity, curiosity, emotional intelligence, and global citizenship. The project bridges science, education and the arts, so that viewers learn to see and appreciate the trees in their immediate environment and understand the essential role they play in daily life..
